The beginning of a journey

I first came into contact with the world of spices many years ago on a trip to the Middle East. Visiting a spice market remained for me the most memorable and enjoyable experience. I remember that although the guide tried to explain what all those spices and their names were, I was too absorbed by the colours and flavours to listen to him. I wanted to buy some, but was discouraged by the fact that I didn't know how to use them.

As the years went by, I started discovering them, reading about them, talking to spice merchants, using them in preparations and enjoying each new recipe I discovered. I learned cooking techniques from books written by famous "chefs", experimented, made mistakes and tried again, until it worked for me.

I will continue this journey into the world of spices and publish on this site useful information from my own documentation or personal experiences.

A blog about spices

Habanero is a blog about spices, herbs and teas and is just starting out.

We try to bring useful information about as many of them as possible and to "befriend" as many readers as possible with this world full of colour, flavours and tastes.

We encourage you to explore this universe when you have the chance, go to spice markets or specialty shops, ask around, experiment and don't hesitate to use them whenever you get the chance.

We'll take a brief look at the history of each spice, properties, health benefits, pairing with other spices to get more flavor and taste, how to store and use. We'll add a recipe at the end of each article to encourage you to cook.

Spices have the power to turn a mundane dish into an extraordinary one.

The benefits of spices presented in the articles are the views of experts in the field, based on research or expert studies. We recommend that blog readers consult their doctor if they wish to treat various conditions or health problems.

Where do we get our information?

From my own experiences and from books. We have a varied library, which we continue to expand every month or with new and interesting titles.
